Rex Smith did not shout at Charice

American singer Rex Smith did not insult Charice like what the Pinay singer's manager, Glenn Aldueza, alleged in an interview with ABS-CBN News last week.

According to Aldueza, Smith went up the stage while they were doing a sound check, pointed a finger at Charice and told her to stop what she's doing. The 58-year-old singer also allegedly said the F-word while leaving the stage.

Smith's Asia manager, Danee Samonte, talked to pep.ph on Monday to air their side.

According to Samonte, they were informed by a technical crew that there were problems with the setting of the drums so he went to the venue with Smith to check it.

As they arrived at the backstage, they saw someone adjusting a keyboard and they thought the person was part of the technical crew.

Smith asked Samonte if he could talk to a crew when someone shouted at him, saying, "You’re disturbing our sound check. Get off my stage!"

Samonte apologized to the people at the venue because they didn't know there was an ongoing sound check. He thought all along that the person who shouted was one of the organizers. He eventually learned that it was Troy Laureta, Charice's Fil-Am musical director and brother of The Voice contestant Cheesa Laureta.

Samonte also said that he knows Charice and they wouldn't inspect the sound system if they saw her there. Thing was, the Pinay singer wasn't there so they did not know there was an ongoing sound check when they got there.

The manager admitted that Smith answered back to the person who shouted, but they left before things got worse.

Samonte said he also couldn't understand why Charice's camp are changing the story of what happened.

"My point is, nag-apologize na nga kami dun sa ano… kasi nag-intrude na nga kami dun sa sound check nila," Samonte said. "Ewan ko kung bakit iniiba nila yung istorya. I don’t know kung ano yung reasons, that’s the bottomline. You can ask everyone who was present at that soundcheck."

He also said they haven't apologized to Charice because the singer was not there when the argument happened.

"I’ve extended my apologies for intruding their soundcheck, but hindi kami nanghihingi ng apology kay Charice ‘coz she wasn’t there. And Rex maintains his silence, he’s very silent, although he was very disappointed bakit na-drag ang pangalan ni Charice dun. Hindi siya kumibo, making him a perfect gentleman. And besides, hindi naman kami pumapatol sa ganun. I mean, if they want to muddle the truth, bahala sila. Basta, that’s the story. Wala si Charice dun. The bottomline is, yes, there’s an argument with the musical director, but Charice was never on stage," he said.
