TV5 is finally airing Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum which stars the network's Prince and Princess of Primetime, JC De Vera and Jasmine Curtis-Smith . The action-drama TV series will premiere on September 12, 2011. Supposed to be released the second quarter of 2011, the series was purposely delayed in respect of ABS-CBN 's Guns and Roses where one of the leads is Robin Padilla . GMA-7 's newest singing reality show, is set to air this September. Titled   Protégé: The Battle for the Big Break , the reality show boasts of the ten Philippine music icons who will mentor their respective protégés. These protégés were chosen during the various auditions they held at the key provinces of the Philippines. The ten music icons/celebrity mentors are Janno Gibbs , Jaya , Jay-R , Rachelle Ann Go , Aiza Seguerra , Joey Generoso of SIDE A, Imelda Papin , Claire dela Fuente , Rey Valera and Gloc 9 . Ogie Alcasid , who is excited for his firstborn with the Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez , will be the Journey Host of the show, while Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado are the Gala Presenters. Anne Curtis is the voice behind Sukob Na , ABS-CBN 's Station ID for the rainy season. We all know, of course, that the beautiful and funny Showtime host will be launching her debut album soon. Sukob Na was composed by Frasco Mortiz and Alexeeb Flores. It was originally performed by the group 17:28 and had been used by ABS-CBN as their rainy season's station ID theme song twice – in 2002 (using the original version) and in 2010 (performed by Aiza Seguerra ). Lea Salonga is really a pride of the Philippines. We've seen her photo with the other Disney princesses during the Disney Legends Award ceremonies but here is a video of her introduction, her acceptance speech, and her performance of the song Reflection from the movie Mulan . People all laughed at how she thanked Linda Larkin who did the speaking voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin for not knowing how to sing. "Because if she did, I would not have this job and I would not be standing here today." Disney Legends Award was held August 19 at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena in California. Lea Salonga was honored for her contribution to Walt Disney. She did the singing voice for Aladdin 's Jasmine in 1992, and of Fa Mulan in two Mulan movies in 1998 and 2004. After My Neighbor's Wife , Carla Abellana , Dennis Trillo and Jake Cuenca will again work together in a movie project titled Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow which will be an official entry to the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival. It would have been fun if Lovi Poe would also be in the project but her inclusion hasn't been confirmed yet. Word is that "she might." This Regal Entertainment and Studio 5 co-production will also star Kapamilya actor Jericho Rosales and Kapatid actress Ritz Azul . The movie is a remake of the 1986 film by Emmanuel Borlaza . It originally starred Vilma Santos , Snooky Serna and Maricel Soriano . Gabby Concepcion and Richard Gomez were the leading men.

Filipino-Canadian YouTube sensation Maria Aragon , who arrived in Manila last month, has finally released her very own record album produced by Star Records. Self-titled, the album features the Lady Gaga song Born This Way , one of Maria's most successful covers. Today, our Muslim brothers celebrate Eid'l Fitr, or more commonly known as the end of Ramadan. It's a month long religious obligation for all healthy adult Muslims in which they refrain from eating, drinking, smoking and having sex during daylight hours. The practice aims to teach Muslims such virtues as patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to Allah. Guns were fired, especially in the Muslim city of Cotabato and the province of Maguindanao as early as 6 PM yesterday when Muslim religious leaders announced the sighting of the moon. It signaled the end of the holy month of fasting. Firing of guns at the end of Ramadan is not written in the Quran, and despite repeated appeals from Muslim religious leaders, police and military authorities, it proved that it is really hard to break what had been practiced at the end of Ramadan in so many years. The song titled Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas is a duet between the Star Power champion and Vincent Bueno . The two have already worked together as a duet in Bida Best sa Tag-araw , the 2011 Summer Station ID of the Kapamilya network. Beyonce walked the black carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday wearing a bright orange Lanvin gown and a baby bump! Later on the VMAs stage, she said before singing Love on Top , "Tonight I want you to stand up on your feet, I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me." Beyonce, who is married to rapper Jay-Z for three years now, wore a Dolce & Gabbana ensemble that included a purple sequin tuxedo jacket, white top and black pants. The Opera Belles ' stint as "hurados" in ABS-CBN 's daily talent show Showtime gave them a chance to make themselves more known all throughout the country. Their "samples" were much applauded and gained them more fans. Philippine Airlines (RP-C7473) Boeing 747-400 made an emergency landing at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) due to some landing gear issues on Friday, August 26, 2011 (Saturday morning in Manila). Onboard the jumbo jet are 418 passengers and 20 crew members. The pilot did a fly-by as firefighters lit up the 747 to check the landing gear after the pilot detected some sort of problem. The problem, it turned out,  was two tires that had blown while in flight. The pilot successfully landed at the LAX at exactly 9:13 PM. The passengers were shuttled to the Tom Bradley International Terminal to collect their bags and go on with their flight. One of the passengers, reportedly, was Annabelle Rama . PAL refused to give out the names of the pilots but GMA News' sources "said the captain on the flight was Efren N. Dishonorable and unethical conduct had been the basis of Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to revoke Hayden Kho 's authority to practice the medical profession. That decision was given on November 20, 2009, following Hayden's much publicized sex video scandal with female celebrities, the most controversial of which was the Kapuso actress Katrina Halili . Hayden, a cosmetic surgeon before his license was revoked, filed an appeal after PRC made that decision, but it was turned down earlier this week. The commission, though, was quick to say that their decision wasn't final yet. Hayden's camp can still file another appeal. Sorry for the lack of updates. The blogger went up Mt. Gulugod Baboy in Anilao, Batangas last Friday, got hit hard by Typhoon Mina, and was sick the whole Saturday. Me and my climb buddy thought there'd be no more rain that day. Thursday was quite sunny after all. We reached Peak 1 in a very good weather, although the wind got particularly strong mid-climb. After having lunch and taking a few pictures, rain started to pour. Visibility instantly got obscured by the fog that what we could see clearly became limited to only a few feet around us. I had my poncho on but I was drenched nonetheless – with sweat. We dropped going to Peak 2 and the Pinagbanderahan summit. There would be another time for that – when the weather is clearer. I was sniffing by the time we got back to the jump-off. The bath before we left was I think what triggered the fever. What with sweat and rain and aching muscles combined. But the blogger is well now. And the blog is back to regular programming

Tropical Storm "MINA" intensifies with maximum winds of 85 kilometers per hour but it is almost stationary since this morning in its location at 400 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. It is being expected to elevate in a typhoon category on Friday with maximum sustained winds of 118 kph. Instead of the earlier reported Saturday, "MINA" is now expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday, August 29. "MINA" remains stationary in its position because of Tropical Depression 97W which is outside the PAR. The two are creating a Fujiwhara effect, where two tropical storms/hurricanes are rotating around a common center. Tropical Depression 97W isn't expected to enter the PAR but it is being closely monitored. It will be called Nonoy if ever it gets inside the PAR. Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are still going to experience rainshowers caused by the southwest monsoon.

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake centered in Virginia shook parts of New Jersey and New York 1:51 PM of August 23, 2011. Although no injuries or structural damage was reported, it caused buildings in the area to sway, causing fear among the residents. The earthquake was also felt in Washington, D.C. and North Carolina. U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was northwest of Richmond, Virginia, about halfway to Charlottesville. Geophysicist Julie Dutton said an earthquake that big is rare for the East Coast but since quakes move more easily through the bedrock, the effects are widely felt in the region. The earthquake was a shallow 6-kilometer deep. and the composition of the earth's surface in the East Coast is the reason why the earthquake was felt in a wide range. Kate Winslet , who became a household name in the Philippines for portraying the role of Rose in the movie Titanic , recently made headlines by saving a 90-year-old from the fire. Kate Winslet and her young children were staying at the Great House on Necker Island when it was struck by lightning during the early hours of Monday when the area was hit by Hurricane Irene. While the other guests fled for their lives, the actress carried the 90-year-old Eve Branson to safety. Eve is the mother of Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Records and owner of the Great House. There were about 20 guests at the Great House that time which included Kate, her boyfriend and her two kids, and Sir Richard's daughter, nephews, nieces, and friends. Sir Richard, 61, his wife Joan and son Sam, 25, were staying at another villa some 100 yards away. He had to run naked towards the burning house to help rescue his guests. GMA Films presents a new horror movie which stars the hottest teen actors of today. Titled The Road , the movie is set for release October 12, 2011. No storm warning signal has been hoisted due to Tropical Depression "MINA", but rains are expected over Metro Manila, Southern Luzon and Visayas due to enhanced Southwest Monsoon. In an interview with GMA-7 , PAGASA Weather Forecaster Buddy Javier said that "MINA" will possibly become stronger but based on the direction its taking, it won't make a landfall in the Philippines. ABS-CBN ruled national television's primetime block last Friday, August 19, basedon the overnight ratings done by Kantar Media -TNS among national households. Unlike in the Mega Manila ratings done by AGB Nielsen Philippines on the same day, the finale episode of Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin ruled primetime TV last Friday with 39.1%. It was followed by fellow Kapamilya shows 100 Days to Heaven , Guns and Roses , and TV Patrol in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th slots. GMA-7 's Munting Heredera was only at number 5 with 22.4%, and Amaya at number 6 with 21.9%. The Kapuso network's daytime shows ruled, though. Noontime show Eat Bulaga! was consistent in leading daytime television. It was at the top slot with 23.5%. After the launch of Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition , MasterChef itself is hitting the Philippine shores! MasterChef Pinoy Edition is an upcoming reality show by ABS-CBN . And in line with that, the Kapamilya network has released audition schedules for the aspiring Pinoy chefs. The audition is open to all 18-50 years of age, with no culinary degree or diploma, no cooking experience in a restaurant (fine dining or casual dining), and no teaching experience in a cooking class or demo. And audition is scheduled at the Marquee Mall in Pampanga on August 25 at 8 AM. Interested applicants must bring their specialty dish. Other audition scheds will soon be announced. GMA-7's Munting Heredera topped the nationwide TV ratings last Friday, August 19, according to AGB Nielsen Philippines Mega Manila People Ratings. It got a total audience share of 14.2% while its ABS-CBN rival show Guns and Roses only got 9.7%. The much-anticipated ending of ABS-CBN's Coco Martin -starrer Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin landed in the second slot with 13.8%, just 0.4% shy from being the most watched TV show that night. Its ABS-CBN rival show, Time of My Life , got a very hight 13.7% . MLKI won over TOML by only 0.1% margin. The Tagalog-dubbed Koreanovela Big Thing got a high 12.2%, enough to put it in the top 4 slot. The Marian Rivera -starer Amaya landed in the top 5 with 12%. The latest PAGASA bulletin says that a Tropical Depression was spotted 400 kilometers East Southeast of Virac, Catanduanes. Named Tropical Depression Mina , it has maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center. It is forecast to move northwest at 09 kph. While it is still weak, it will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides over Southern Luzon and Visayas. Mindanao and Central Luzon, on the other hand, will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to east will prevail over northern and central Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country. Coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
