Local Government Units (LGUs) in some parts of northern Luzon have announced suspension of classes on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, a day after National Heroes' Day, a public holiday in the Philippines.
Classes were cancelled because of the heavy rains brought about by the southwest monsoon that affect northern and central Luzon.
Heavy rains are expected to affect the Bataan, Babuyan Islands, Batanes, Benguet, the Ilocos Region, and Zambales where flashfloods and landslides may occur.

Suspension of classes has been announced by some Local Government Units (LGUs) due to heavy rains that triggered floods on Friday, August 26, 2016.
The thunderstorm and non-stop heavy rains which started late night on Thursday was brought about by Typhoon Dindo, which, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) bulletin released 11 PM of Aug. 25, "has maintained its strength while remaining almost stationary" 970 kilometers (km) east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
