Michael Martinez ranks 19th in medal round - 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics

Michael Christian Martinez was the third to perform during the medal round of the 2014 Sochi Olympics' Men's Figuring Skating on Friday, February 14th. He ranked 19th (the same as his rank in the short program) with the combined short and free programs score of 184.25.

He performed to Ernesto Lecuona's Malaguena, getting a lot of praises from the commentators for his talent at such a young age. The routine was described as a "performance to be proud of."

According to a report by News5, international press were all over him after his performance, being curious about how he started, and if the ice skating rinks in the malls in the Philippines are even of standard size.

Martinez is the sole representative of the Philippines to the Sochi Olympics, and the first one at that. He is also the first in Southeast Asia to compete in the Winter Olympics.

Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu won the gold medal, Canada's Patrick Chan won silver, and Kazakhstan's Denis Ten got bronze.
