Michael Martinez, the Philippines' sole representative to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, performed Thursday night and got a spot in the Top 24.
Martinez's performance was very special because he is the first-ever Filipino and Southeast Asian to have competed in the Winter Olympics. He is also the youngest in the men's figure skating event.
He was much-cheered by the live audience. He also proudly showed his jacket that has "Philippines" on it while waiting for his score with his Russian coach.
The 17-year-old got a total score of 64.81 points. He will compete in the free program on Friday.
