From the backstage, Smith went to the stage to comment on the set-up, allegedly not knowing that Charice was doing a sound check for a corporate show where she is the front act of Smith.
"Upon entering the backstage, he went straight to the stage and made a comment about the set-up," producer Renen De Guia of Ovation Productions said. "He thought it was his set-up."
At that point, the musical director of Charice started shouting at Smith, surprising everyone.
"[Smith] was suddenly shouted at by this guy who turned out to be Charice's Fil-Am musical director. We were all shocked! It was only then that we realized Charice was having a sound check," De Guia said.
De Guia added that he immediately went to apologize to Charice and her group.
"I went to Charice and her group to sincerely apologize about the incident that we really didn't know that she was doing a sound check."
Meanwhile, Charice's manager Glenn Aldeza's version of the story says that Smith just went up the stage and began shouting, pointing his finger at Charice and demanded that she stop what she's doing.
"We went there on time (2 p.m.) and she's doing the sound check with the musical director. Then suddenly a foreigner came up to the stage and then he pointed his finger to Charice and told Charice, 'Can you please stop what you are doing.' Then nakipag-away si Rex Smith doon sa musical director kasi sabi ng musical director, 'Can't you see somebody is rehearsing?'" Aldueza said.
Aldueza further said that Smith even said the F-word while leaving the stage.
And while Charice doesn't want to make the issue bigger, her manager feels they deserve an apology for being insulted.
