Kris Aquino defends James Yap, greets ex-husband happy birthday

Kris Aquino defended former husband James Yap from those saying that the San Mig Coffee Mixers player sold the Game 6 of their semi-finals game against Ginebra.

She discussed the issue with Boy Abunda on Tuesday night in the opening of their new talk show, Aquino & Abunda Tonight.

Aquino surprised a lot of viewers with her words, considering she recently had legal battles with Yap. She even requested for (and eventually granted) a Permanent Protection Order (PPO) against the cager, who is the father of her second child, Bimby Yap.

"Sa matagal na panahon na nakilala ko si James Yap at nakilala ko ang buong pagkatao n'ya, hindi n'ya gagawin na magbenta ng laro dahil buong buhay n'ya, binuhos n'ya for that," Aquino said.

"He's gonna love me for this. Matutuwa s'ya dito sa sinasabi ko'ng 'to," the outspoken host added.

She even mentioned the fact that San Mig won Game 5 because of Yap and asked why put the blame on him for the team's Game 6 loss.

"Game 5, they won because of James Yap, a three-pointer, 'di ba? S'ya 'yung hero, so bakit gano'n?" she asked.

Although she didn't give any figures, she revealed the contents of Yap's contract as a way of telling everyone that he won't sell a game.

"As somebody who used to read the contract of James Yap, pumasok sila sa finals, kahit ano'ng benta sinasabi nila, matutumbasan 'yon ng kikitain n'ya by making it to the finals. Gano'n kalaki ang kontrata n'ya so there's no reason for him to sell a game," she said.

She also wished Yap good luck on their Game 7, which got a loud "ooh" from those in the studio.

"At the end of the day you are as good as your last game, so tomorrow good luck, James," she said.

With that, Abunda commented: "You know, if I didn't know that you were separated, I'd still think that you're still so in love."

Aquino then explained why she can now say those things.

"You know why, Boy, I've released all anger from my heart," she said.

She even greeted Yap for his birthday on Saturday and reminded him to be good because their kid Bimby, as well as Aquino's older child, Josh, are going to be with him.

"On Saturday, happy birthday, James. Alagaan mo si Bimby at si Josh. Nasa 'yo sila, be good," she said.

And to San Mig's Game 7 against Ginebra, Aquino told Yap: "You win tomorrow. Prove everybody wrong."
