Riza Santos, a Filipino-Canadian, will represent Canada in the Miss Universe 2013 pageant.
She was not declared the winner during the Miss Universe Canada 2013 pageant night but the Beauties of Canada (BOC) eventually found out that a “human error” happened which resulted in the announcement of wrong winner and runners-up.
Riza, who represented Calgary, was declared 1st runner-up during the pageant night and Denise Garrido from Bradford was the winner. The real results, however, named Riza as the winner while Denise was only 3rd runner-up.
“Beauties of Canada congratulates Riza Santos as the winner of Miss Universe Canada 2013 competition, and looks forward to working with her as she prepares to represent our country at Miss Universe 2013,” the BOC said.
That said, Riza will compete with the Philippines’ Ariella Arida in the Miss Universe 2013 pageant. Unlike Ariella, however, it will not be the first international pageant for Riza. She has already represented Canada in the Miss Earth 2006 pageant and Miss World in 2011.
After the Miss Earth pageant which was held in the country, Riza stayed on and joined Pinoy Big Brother where she was named the second big placer. She eventually joined the local showbiz for a short period of time.
