‘Comedy bar humor’ not fit for TV

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has called the attention of ABS-CBN, GMA-7 and TV5 regarding the “comedy bar humor” in comedy shows on TV.

MTRCB

On its official Twitter account (@MTRCBgov), the government agency posted the following message on Thursday:

The post was in relation to the recent controversy regarding Vice Ganda’s below-the-belt joke about GMA News and Public Affairs vice president Jessica Soho during the comedian’s recent concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Described by a number of netizens as bullying, Vice made fun of Jessica’s physique and said that if she were to be a bold star, her scenes should include a gang rape.

Meanwhile, the MTRCB earlier posted that their jurisdiction is only over television and movies, and that “the discipline of individual artists” is under the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).

Vice’s making fun of Jessica has drawn a lot of negative comments from netizens, particularly over Facebook and Twitter.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the It’s Showtime host said that before the concert began, he said that the things that will happen that night are purely jokes. However, he said that instead of justifying what he did, he would just apologize to Jessica and to all those that have been offended by his jokes.
