Georgina Wilson has broken her silence over her Twitter post regarding Manila Mayor-elect Joseph “Erap” Estrada.
In an email she sent to pep.ph through her manager Shirley Kuan, the model and host said that the post was made back in 2009 when she was still in Australia. It is not a reaction to Erap’s recent win as the mayor of Manila.
According to Georgina:
The tweet was written 4 years ago in 2009 at a time when I was still studying at University in Australia. The original post is still in my Twitter timeline...I know my words were insensitive and hurtful but I feel it is not fair that it has been taken out of context.
Georgina’s controversial tweet was:
ugh i hate politics - but I only have one thing to say: Anyone that votes for Erap is a f***ing idiot
Erap’s children Jake and Jerika Ejercito reacted to the said tweet, defending their father.
Jake tweeted: “Ms. Wilson, social media might be a free world but I think it's quite irresponsible to express such an opinion unless you are well-versed with the current situation of the city of Manila and how the present local administration has failed to handle it… Moreover, to call 325,288 Manileños, including the 9.4 million Filipinos who voted for him in 2010, "f***ing idiots" is harsh and truly uncalled for. Don't hate without knowing the facts.”
Meanwhile, Jerika posted: “i encourage @erwanjheussaff & @ilovegeorgina not to abuse their "status" to demean ANYBODY for that matter”
It was in reply to Erwan Heussaff’s tweet saying: “GMA have you heard? You'll be pardoned and made mayor soon enough.. Be patient.” By GMA, he meant Gloria Macapagal Aroyo.
Erwan, who’s the boyfriend of It’s Showtime host Anne Curtis, replied to Jerika with: “@JerikaEjercito Expressing my views and frustrations is all. As a contributing citizen I'm tired of getting toyed with by some politicians”
It was answered by Jerika with the tweet: “@erwanjheussaff you are entitled to your opinion. It would just be better that next time you do share it to get your facts straight FIRST”
