Pamela Anderson invites PNoy to dinner

The 45-year-old Baywatch star recently sent a letter to Philippine President Noynoy Aquino to invite him to dinner. No romantic intentions there, though, because the actress and sex symbol wanted to talk to PNoy about Mali’s welfare.

Mali is the 39-year-old wild Asian elephant in Manila Zoo, that many animal rights advocates say believe should be transferred to a larger sanctuary.

“Should you find yourself in Los Angeles, I’d love to take you to dinner and talk more about how we can help Mali.”

Anderson, however, knew of PNoy’s concern to the animal as he issued a directive last year for the study of the possible transfer of Mali.

“Thank you for taking a strong, serious stance on her behalf by issuing a directive to consider moving her to a sanctuary. In a world filled with political self-interest, your character and integrity are inspiring,” part of the American actress’ letter said.

She even quoted on the words of Mahatma Gandhi who said a country’s progress can be judged by the treatment of its animals.

“Gandhi once famously said, ‘the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.’ I know that the Philippines is a great nation.”

The palace has yet to comment on the letter.

Meanwhile, another celebrity who has previously written a letter to the president about Mali was the British singer Morrissey.

Well, I guess the country should really act on the issue of the aging elephant. It’s time that Mali enjoy the rest of her life in a larger place. After all, hasn’t she spent enough years entertaining the visitors of the zoo?
