Gretchen Barretto says she’s not fighting back

A crying Gretchen Barretto was in The Buzz on Sunday, May 5, 2013. But contrary to the public’s expectation that she’s going to react to the statements released by her mother Inday Barretto and her older sister Gia, the actress said she’d rather not talk about it because it is a family matter and it is not right to go public about it.

Towards the end of the show, however, she was asked by host Boy Abunda for some words, and here’s what Gretchen had to say:

“Hindi madali ang pinagdadaanan ko ngayon; hindi madali 'yung pinag-uusapan ka ng buong Pilipinas; hindi madaling pakinggan 'yung pinagdaanan ko, 'yung childhood ko. Away pamilya to hindi dapat isapubliko. It took so long for me to learn so many things. I learned this week that a tight embrace means the world to me. I learned that marami din palang nagmamahal sa akin. I also learned that life is not perfect and I can't have evertyhing. Ayokong magsalita. Dominique, my daughter, knows my story. Many years from now lilingunin n'ya 'tong nangyari sa akin. Maaalala ni Dominique na ‘my mom never fought’ and that's what's important to me. That's what I like to leave behind.”

Meanwhile, she recently told pep.ph through a text message that she’s going to sue Gia for libel due to the accusations in the latter’s statement that was published in The Philippine Star.

The controversy started when Gretchen got irritated at Julia Barretto's, her niece, basher on Instagram. Thinking, and quite sure, it was Claudine, she started posting angry messages, and although she didn't mention the name of the person she's directing it to, any showbiz fan would know it was for her younger sister.

It was followed by Claudine's posting on her Instagram account a photo of her and daughter Sabina while cleaning Raymart Santiago's Porsche. The car was mentioned in one of Gretchen's posts insinuating that Claudine did something bad to it.

Their mother Inday Barretto eventually released a statement through Ricky Lo's PhilStar column supporting Claudine. Gretchen’s older brother Joaquin then released his own statement through pep.ph in support of Gretchen. It was followed by Gia's statement which was sent to their mom, who, in turn, sent it to Ricky Lo for publishing. On April 28, Inday released another statement via The Buzz. Tanya Montenegro, Gretchen's best friend, was interviewed in the same episode, siding with Gretchen.
