Carlos Celdran has just been made tourism consultant of Manila!
Celdran has been famous for his walking tours of Intramuros where he tells the stories behind the famous landmarks within the walled city.
He became more popular, however, with the Damaso incident in September 2010 where he interrupted a Catholic mass by going in front of the Manila Cathedral altar. Dressed as Jose Rizal, he raised a sign with the words “Damaso” in protest of the Catholic church’s opposition to the then Reproductive Health bill.
Damaso, meanwhile, is the villainous friar from Rizal’s novel “Noli Me Tangere.”
With Celdran’s love for history and with his knowledge about Manila’s past, being a tourism consultant of the said city is very fitting.
On Wednesday, Celdran told his followers on his Facebook Page about the good news.
Okay. For those wondering about what happened this afternoon at Manga Street. Yup. I was appointed as a Consultant for Tourism for the City Hall of Manila. Nothing major but not a small job either. Cool. Let's see how this rolls out. Thank you Manila Mayor Estrada and Vice Mayor Isko for the opportunity. It was a pleasure meeting Mr. Dennis Lacuña of the City Planning Office too. I look forward to working in coordination with all the departments of City Hall.
Here’s wishing Carlos Celdran the best of luck.
