The first live performance night of The X Factor Philippines took place tonight at the PAGCOR Grand Theater. There will be a different them every week and for this week it was “Songs From Movies.”
Take Off from the Group category was the first to perform. and their mentor Gary Valenciano chose Jail House Rock for them. The group said the song kinda surprised them because it wasn’t the kind that they usually sing. The judges were all impressed in the end, though. And their mentor was very pleased. To vote for them, text XF TAKE.
Next up was Allen Jane Sta. Maria from the Girls category mentored by Charice. She sang Keep Holding On and she kinda dropped the music style we loved in the auditions but the song showed that she can hit the high notes. Text XF Allen to vote for her.
Third to perform was Gabriel Maturan from the Boys category mentored by Martin Nievera. He was given Bruno Mars’ It Will Rain which was arranged in a way that it would be more “him.” He surprised Gary because he showed that he can move on stage, something the judge didn’t expect. Aside form Gary’s thoughts that Gabriel could do better than his performance, everyone only had praises for him. To vote for him, text XF GAB.
Modesto Taran was the first to perform from the Over 25s category mentored by Pilita Corales. He sang Johnny B Goode and performed with a group of dancers on the stage. He gave such a performance that everyone loved it. He was even called Mr. Suave by Charice. Text XF MOD to support him.
Daddy’s Home from the Groups sang Till My Heartaches End and they brought the house down with their excellent blending and powerful individual voices. The arrangement of the song was also made in a way that they could showcase their strengths. They did a very good job that the live audience chanted “Daddy’s Home” after their performance. Charice’s comment: “Uh-mah-zing!” To vote for the group, text XF DAD.
KZ Tandingan of the Girls sang The Show and the judges, although they liked her, thought it wasn’t the right song for her. He gave a good show, though, with all the moving around the stage and connecting to the audience. To vote for her, text XF KZ.
Jeric Medina from the Boys did a Gerard Salonga-arranged Unchained Melody which showed his range despite having a little problem with his throat. “You sound like your mentor,” Pilita commented. And if he could sing that good while having problems with his voice, that makes us wonder how much better he could sing at the pink of health. Text XF JERIC to support him.
Mark Mabasa from Over 25s sang Kiss From A Rose and he showed everyone that he has what it takes to win. His falsetto was very good and we also saw his rocker side in the performance. Martin wished he was a year younger because that would mean he’d be in the Boys category. "You tell a story beautifully with your eyes, with your soul, with your song,” praised Martin. Text XF MARK to vote for him.
A.K.A. Jam (formerly Lucky Girls) from the Groups performed Got To Be Real and with all of their powerful voices put together, they got the first standing ovation for the night. Martin even said that they seemed like guest performers in the competition. Pilita, meanwhile, called the performance fabulous and Charice said that if the U.S. has One Direction, the Philippines has A.K.A. Jam. Vote for them by texting XF JAM.
Joan Da from Over 25s sang Sunday Morning and she showed her guitar skills on the stage. And she was good! Martin said she has made herself unforgettable from the start of the competition and her physical transformation (read: she let go of the geeky glasses) was well noted. Text XF JOAN to support her.
Jerrianne Templo from the Girls was the next to perform and she sang First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Charice said she chose the song because it would make her mark in the televiewers’ minds that she is a diva. Martin said it was her best performance since the auditions. Gary said Jerrianne gave her hundred percent and that the audience received a hundred percent. Text XF JER if you want her to stay.
Kedebon Colim of the Boys was the last to perform and he sang and dance to the song First Day High. Gary V said Kedebom just showed the Philippines why he was picked among the rest of the aspirants. We’re sure he’d get the public’s sympathy votes. Text XF KED to vote for him.
Send your votes to 2331 for Globe, TM and Sun Cellular or 231 for Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers. Voting is now open until tomorrow night’s live show when one of the contestants will be eliminated.
