Modesto Taran sang Lou Rawls’ Pure Imagination during the Top 9 performance show of The X Factor Philippines. The theme for the night was “tribute to late music icons.”
The 55-year-old’s smooth vocals was perfect for the song. His effortless singing was very easy to listen to. He is under the Over 25s category being mentored by Pilita Corales.
Meanwhile, the icon he paid tribute to was Lou Rawls, an American recording artist and producer who released more than 60 albums and sold more than 40 million records in his time. He died in 2006 at the age of 72.
Here’s what the judges said about Modesto Taran’s performance:
Martin Nievera: What a perfect, perfect song. Lou Rawls himself could not have sung that song better than you. You have the most beautiful voice in the entire competition. Good job.
Gary Valenciano: Nilalagay mo ang sarili mong touch sa mga kanta… If there’s anything I can comment on siguro minsan ‘yong mga ibang salita, ‘yong diction pwede pang gawing polido ‘yong iba.
Charice Pempengco: This is one of the reasons kung bakit nandito ka pa rin sa X Factor.
Pilita: Tayong mga Bisaya may konting accent, pero at least you are doing very very well.
