Star Cinema’s The Reunion did well in the box-office as compared to its rival local movie from GMA Films, Just One Summer. Both movies had an August 15 showing.
Based on the data provided by Box Office Mojo, The Reunion grossed a total of Php55,565,031 as of August 26, 2012. The movie made Php31,205,509 from Aug 15 to 19, and Php11,748,208 from Aug 22 to 26.
Meanwhile, Just One Summer made Php6,155,778 on its first five days of showing (Aug 15-19). It was not shown in the Aug 22-26 list.
The Reunion stars Enchong Dee, Enrique Gil, Xian Lim, Kean Cipriano, Bangs Garcia, Jessy Mendiola, Megan Young and Julia Montes. It’s a fun movie that paid tribute to the songs of the iconic local band Eraserheads.
The barkada movie, which stars some of the hottest Kapamilya young stars of today, won over the GMA Films’ drama movie that is topbilled by the love team of Elmo Magalona and Julie Anne San Jose.
Does this mean that moviegoers these days favor comedy over drama? Or is it the quality of production and its stars?
