Brillante Mendoza’s Captive will be commercially shown in the country beginning September 5, distributed by Star Cinema.
Produced by Swift Entertainment Production and Centerstage Production, Captive stars French actress Isabelle Huppert as a French social worker in a story inspired by the Dos Palmas kidnapping of two U.S. missionaries by the Abu Sayyaf.
The movie had its world premiere last February at the Berlin Film Festival. Its Filipino cast include Ronnie Lazaro, Angel Aquino, Sid Lucero, Raymond Bagatsing, Rustica Carpio, Maria Isabel Lopez, Mercedes Cabral and Timothy Mabalot.
Isabelle and Brillante first met at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival where the Filipino director bagged the Best Director award for Kinatay. Isabelle the jury president of the festival that time and she was so impressed by Brillante’s work that she agreed to collaborate on a movie with him.
