Jesse Robredo’s body found, country grieves loss of good servant-leader

The body of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo has been retrieved early morning Tuesday, August 21, 2012. All hopes that he is still alive has now vanished.

The sad news was announced by Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas II in Masbate. He said that Robredo’s body was found still inside the plane 800 meters from the shore and submerged 180 feet deep into the ocean. Robredo’s body was surfaced around 8:15 AM.

The Cessna-172 plane carrying Robredo crashed off the coast of Masbate last Saturday, August 18, on its way to Naga. The DILG secretary came from a commitment in Cebu and was reportedly in a hurry to go back home to watch his daughter’s swimming competition.

Meanwhile, Philippine President Benigno Aquino III personally broke the sad news to Robredo’s family. The Robredo home temporarily closed its doors to visitors and media when the family learned of the news.

Our sincere condolences to the loved ones of Secretary Jesse Robredo. May his soul rest in peace.
