“Sisterakas” is indeed the highest-grossing Filipino movie of all time

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has released through its official Twitter account the final gross of the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Sisterakas

The two-week gross revealed that early leader Sisterakas remained on top from first up to the last day, registering an impressive P342-million.

Produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films, the comedy flick was well-received by moviegoers during its run. The trio of Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino and Ai-Ai delas Alas was such a hit that some of the people I personally know even watched the movie more than once.

Sisterakas is now the highest-grossing Filipino movie of all time, toppling the previous title holder, The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin which only made P331-million.

Both the previous and current title holders were starred by Vice Ganda and directed by Wenn V. Deramas. Surely, it would boost the talent fees of the two to greater heights.

Meanwhile, Star Cinema’s One More Try was the second highest-grossing 2012 MMFF entry with P170.5-million. It was followed by Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako which made P133.5-million.

During the 2011 MMFF, the Enteng Kabisote movie (Enteng Ng Ina Mo!) was the highest-grosser with P237.8-million. It starred Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai delas Alas.

Check out the final box-office results of the 2012 MMFF during its two-week run below.

1. Sisterakas P342-million
2. One More Try P170.5-million
3. Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako P133.5-million

5. The Strangers
6. El Presidente P50.6-million
7. Sosy Problems (total of four movies)
8. Thy Womb

2012 MMFF made a total gross of P767.8-million, surpassing 2011’s P636.7-million.
