Ricky Lo interviews an irritated Anne Hathaway (Video)

The Philippine Star has uploaded Ricky Lo’s interview with Les Miserables star Anne Hathaway on its official YouTube account. The interview was described by most as awkward, especially that the columnist’s first question got dismissed by the Hollywood actress.

Anne Hathaway

Anne was perhaps irritated when Ricky asked about her weight.

“First off, Anne, you lost twenty-five pounds for Fantine. How did you do it and how did you gain it back?” asked Ricky.

Anne laughed in response and said, “I’d rather not talk about the weight loss, please.”

Anyway, the interview became a little lighter when Ricky showed Lea Salonga’s message for her. Lea played the same role in Broadway that Anne did in the movie.

Then Ricky reminded her of the Vogue interview where she mentioned Lea and he asked Anne about what she said in that particular interview.

“I think if you think of me as an actor who sings rather than a singer, I am probably more impressive,” answered Anne. “But Lea has one of the great voices of our time, you know I don’t think there’s vocally anything that she can’t do. And she’s made a career as a singer so I have complete deference to her.”

When asked about how she was able to identify with Fantine when they lived a completely different life, Anne didn’t want to answer it again.

“For somebody perceived to live a life of luxury and privilege, how were you able to identify with Fantine?” Ricky asked.

When Anne hesitated like she didn’t understand the question, Ricky elaborated by saying, “Have you ever experienced to be hungry, be poor, and you know, just like the character…”

It was dismissed by Anne, saying, “That’s a very personal question.”

Perhaps Ricky felt the tension because after that, while Anne was talking about her favorite scene in the movie, he dropped something (probably his cellphone), that the actress even said, “Oops, careful.”

Then he got dismissed again when he asked Anne for a message to Lea. According to Anne, they have “already talked about Lea.”

The most awkward part, however, was when Ricky asked her to invite Filipino fans to watch the movie.

Anne just said, “Why don’t you invite them? I think they’d much rather hear from you.”
