Donald Trump Jr. receives flak over Tubbataha comment

Donald Trump Jr. caused an uproar among Filipino netizens because of his comment regarding the dismantling of the US Navy minesweeper, the USS Guardian, that is still stuck in Tubbataha Reef.

According to Donald Jr., it’s stupid to scrap the $277-million ship just to save the reef that has already been damaged.

This is how stupid we are! $1/4 bil+ ho hum “@DRUDGE_REPORT: Navy to scrap $277 million ship to avoid scraping reef...drudge.tw/XSG79T”

Tubbataha Reef is off-limits to any form of navigation. It is a protected marine sanctuary nominated at the New 7 Wonders of Nature, designated by Unesco as a World Heritage Site in 1992, and considered as the best dive site in the Philippines.

It is quite questionable how a sophisticated navy vessel could end up wandering in an off-limits zone. It was reportedly due to a faulty digital chart and the state of the vessel’s navigational equipment, but many believe it was something more than that.

Meanwhile, Donald Jr. also said that the boat is more important than the coral reef. In answer to the question posted by @adamq112, he said: “not the whole reef but yes a 277mil boat is more important than a 200x50 section of reef that has already been run over.”

@SK1MPY also replied to Donald Jr.’s post saying that we only have one nature, but he was answered with: “yes because very the small section of reef that has Already been run over is is worth 1/4bil Obamanomics much?”
