A shooting incident inside SM Megamall scared mall goers on Saturday, January 26. The people inside the shopping center were alerted as they heard a couple of gunshots followed by the loud crashing of glass.
It happened in the jewelry counter of The Jeweller located in Building B of SM Megamall. Suspects were five men who got away after stealing pieces of jewelries from the counter.
In a report, all entrances of the mall were locked up after the incident and the shoppers were frisked as they were made to go out to ensure that none of the suspects in the shooting could escape.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that the robbery happened around 7:40pm.
SM confirmed through its official Twitter account that there was indeed a robbery. It was also said that no one got hurt in the incident.
SM Malls posted around 8:15pm:
“Robbery at jewelry counter SM Megamall. No casualties.”
Meanwhile, around twenty minutes after SM’s post, ANC advised the public through Twitter that the mall’s operation was already back to normal. ANC’s message was retweeted by SM Malls.
“mal back to normal after incident”
Mandaluyong Police Senior Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen said that they are still doing follow-up operations to catch the five suspects. He also confirmed that jewelries were indeed stolen although details as to the cost of the stolen goods have not yet been revealed by the mall’s management.
