A magnitude-6.3 earthquake shook Indonesia on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 9:41 UTC.
According to USGS, the epicenter was traced 56 kilometers (34 miles) southeast of Palu. It has a depth of 19.9 km (12.4 miles).
Terrified residents flee their houses to go to the streets as the earth shook, but no incidents of damage or casualties has been reported yet.
Last July, a magnitude-6.4 earthquake also rocked Simeulue, Indonesia.
The country is one of those frequently hit by earthquakes due to its location. It is in the Pacific “ring of fire,” an area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean.
