Paulo Avelino offends EnPress at the Golden Screen Awards

Paulo Avelino won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the recently-held 10th Golden Screen Awards for TV (2013). He deserved the award, no questions about that. But has success gotten into his head already?

Paulo Avelino

“Mahirap magtrabaho kung napilitan ka lang,” Paulo said before presenting an award at the EnPress event last week, and those were the same words that offended members of the Entertainment Press Society.

But was he really just forced to be a presenter?

According to reports, Paulo was asked to stay for a while after he received the Best Supporting Actor honor for his role as Nathan in Walang Hanggan. The organizers asked him to present an award, and although the actor refused at first because he said he needed the permission of his manager and Star Magic, he gave in after his manager Leo V. Dominguez gave a go.

But what he uttered on the microphone, talking about being forced to work, was unacceptable to the members of the Entertainment Press Society.

His manager immediately sent an apology to the members of EnPress, realizing the damage Paulo’s words have caused. The apology reads:

Paulo Avelino would like to apologize to the Enpress for the statement he made when he presented an award during the Golden Screen Awards. He was just trying to crack an innocent joke to lighten up the program, with no intention to offend anyone, most especially his frineds from the press. He now realizes the consequences of his statement and he would like to exhaust all means to reconcile with those he offended.

But according to EnPress president Jun Nardo, “the offense was done, so a belated apology coming from his manager, Leo Dominguez, and not from Paulo Avelino himself cannot be simply accepted by most Entertainment Press Society members who were offended by his remarks.”

Nardo also said that the EnPress members would talk about the incident and then decide what to do.

“We’ve dealt with the biggest stars in the industry at never kaming nakaranas ng ganitong kagaspangan ng ugali sa isang artista,” he further wrote in his Abante Online column.

Let’s hope Paulo learns from this incident. After all, he should know that a little tact goes long way.

Meanwhile, another negative rumor has hit the actor. And although it was only a blind item, clues point to no one else but him. According to the rumor, he acts like a diva in the set of the movie The Bride and the Lover, to the point that he even came up to the director to say that he thinks their movie won’t sell.

It’s just a rumor, though. But it has surfaced even before the Golden Screen Awards incident. And as they say, when there’s smoke, there’s fire.
