Kristel Tejada, the UP-Manila student who committed suicide because of financial problems, was laid to rest on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Manila North Cemetery.
The 16-year-old Behavioral Sciences student was brought to her final resting place at around 4:00 PM, with a crowd of around a thousand paying their last respects.
Kristel Pilar Mariz Tejada took her own life on Friday, March 15, 2013, two days after she filed a Leave of Absence (LOA) because she would be unable to enroll for the first semester of Academic Year 2013-2014.
Last year, she filed a student loan for the first semester of AY 2012-2013 and was given extension to pay the loan up to November 30, 2012. It was further extended up to December 2012. In January, her father Christopher Tejada applied for another loan but was denied because it was already the middle of the semester.
Kristel had no choice but to file an LOA on Wednesday, March 13, so she will not be on Absence Without Leave (AWOL) for the next semester. The LOA was approved the next day, March 14. Sadly, she ended her life on Friday in their house in Tayuman, Manila.
