The Philippines was a big winner at the first Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA), winning four out of its seven nominations.
Three trophies went to the independent film Sta. Niña including Best Picture (Drama), Best Actress for Alessandra de Rossi, and Best Supporting Actress for the veteran Anita Linda.
Child star Bugoy Cariño was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his role in Alagwa. He is indeed showing signs of being multi-talented this early as aside from doing drama, he is also seen Sundays dancing in ASAP and then making us laugh in the kiddie gag show Goin' Bulilit.
The other nominees from the Philippines that didn't win were Jericho Rosales for Best Actor (Alagwa), Mga Kidnapper Ni Ronnie Lazaro for Best Picture (Comedy), and Manny Palo for Best Director (Sta. Niña). No Coco Martin (Sta. Niña's lead actor) anywhere in the list, though.
