ABS-CBN’s official statement on Kris Aquino’s resignation

ABS-CBN has released an official statement regarding the controversial resignation of Kris Aquino through the network’s head of integrated corporate communications, Bong R. Osorio.

According to the statement, the actress and host cannot leave her job as a judge in the reality show Pilipinas Got Talent as it is a foreign franchise and there are commitments to be fulfilled and rules to abide by.

The statement also said that Kris “will fulfill her commitments to her soap Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw, which is nearing its end.”

Kris’ leaving the country was  earlier planned so she “had taped advanced [Kris TV] episodes in anticipation of her long planned vacation with her sons.”

On Thursday, Kris said on national television that she is quitting showbiz. It was done in the middle of the controversy which involved her former husband James Yap. She filed a Temporary Protection Order (TPO) against him on Wednesday because he allegedly overstepped his boundaries and tried to seduce her inside her own home which caused their heated argument last December. It eventually caused psychological harm on their son Baby James/Bimby who saw the whole thing.

Later that same day, James told his version of what happened that day in December when he visited his son. According to him, he joked of attempting to kiss Kris because his son wouldn’t give him a goodbye kiss. He also said that Kris made it look like he was hurting her when he held her arm that’s why Bimby thought he was really doing so. The child got mad at him because of that.

James further said that Kris used the name of her older brother, President Noy, to insinuate that she could ruin him. The name of the president being dragged into the issue caused the ire of the Aquino sisters, reason for all four of them to go on a live interview with TV Patrol on Thursday. It was the same interview where Kris said she was quitting showbiz.

Here’s the official statement of ABS-CBN regarding Kris Aquino’s resignation:

23 March 2013

Ms. Kris Aquino and her kids are going on an earlier planned vacation starting today, March 23.

Upon her return, Kris will fulfill her commitments to her soap “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw,” which is nearing its end. She will also have to stay as a judge in “Pilipinas Got Talent” till its end on June. Being a foreign franchise, there are commitments we have to fulfill and rules we need to abide by.

Kris TV had taped advanced episodes in anticipation of her long planned vacation with her sons.

Ms. Kris aquino and ABS-CBN management are also scheduled to meet upon her return to Manila.

Meanwhile, we wish Kris and her sons a peaceful and restful vacation. We respect her need for privacy at this difficult time.
