Senator Chiz Escudero held a press conference in Naga on Thursday, March 21, 2013, regarding the accusations thrown at him by the parents of his girlfriend, actress Heart Evangelista.
The politician, who did not take any questions from the media, said he loves Heart but they are going through a rough patch caused by her parents’ accusations against him.
Heart’s parents, Cecile and Rey Ongpauco, held a press conference on Tuesday, March 19, to state the reasons why their family is against Heart and Chiz’s relationship. Among the reasons cited were the age gap, the senator’s alleged alcoholism, and the fact that he could not marry Heart in a Catholic church because his previous marriage was annulled only by law and not by church. In the official statement released by the Ongpauco couple, they also mentioned opportunism because Chiz allegedly moved to Heart’s condo unit and uses her Mercedes Benz.
“Bago ito, masaya at maayos kami ni Heart, pero sa nangyaring ito, malaki ang epekto sa kanya,” Chiz told the media on Thursday. “Mahal ko si Heart pero matindi itong pinagdadaanan namin, masakit.”
He also added that Cecile and Rey Ongpauco, no matter how rich they were, do not have the right to do that to him.
“Pilit ko iniintindi ang parents ni Heart, parent din ako pero hindi ako naninira sa ngalan ng anak ko. Kahit gaano karami pera nila, hindi lisensya para yurakan ang pagkatao ko,” he said.
What made it worse for the 43-year-old senator was that his children and even his parents were being affected by the controversy.
“Nadadamay ang mga anak ko pati nanay ko, lumalabas na parang hindi ako pinalaki ng maayos,” he added.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old actress has apologized to Chiz and his family for what her parents have caused.
“Mahal ko si Chiz. Humihingi po ako ng paumanhin sa kanya at sa pamilya niya dahil nadadamay sila dito,” Heart said. She also added that she loves her parents but she hopes that they will trust and respect her decisions as she is already of age.
