Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire has just revealed the news that he will soon become a father.
His wife Rachel is now three months pregnant as the two announced in an Umagang Kay Ganda interview Monday morning.
The Yahoo! Sports Fighter of the Year said that all the boxing victories and honors he had in 2012 was nothing compared to when his wife told him he’s going to be a father.
“We’re blessed,” he told UKG hosts Alvin Elchico and Bernadette Sembrano, describing how he feels towards having a child.
Both Nonito and Rachel wanted to have a baby boy for their first kid but the boxing champ added that regardless the gender, what’s important is the baby’s health.
The 30-year-old fighter also feels a new kind of inspiration because of the baby.
“Ngayon talagang iba ‘yong inspiration,” he said. “ Kahit wala akong laban nage-ensayo ako.”
And speaking of fights, he said he might have one in March or April but he still doesn’t know where it’s going to be held. He also hopes to have three fights this year, but then he might have to cancel depending on the situation. A doting father-to-be, he revealed he wanted to be with his wife in every tests that pertains to her pregnancy, and of course during the delivery itself.
Recently, Nonito was named Yahoo! Sports 2012 Fighter of the Year for his round 3 technical knockout win against Mexican boxer Jorge Arce.
