Gerald Anderson was interviewed by Boy Abunda regarding the issue that has been one of the much talked-about this week - his dating Maja Salvador, the bestfriend of his ex-girlfriend, Kim Chiu. The interview was aired in The Buzz on January 13th.
Gerald and Kim separated three years ago and according to Kim, she has already moved on from the heartaches. She, however, confessed that it gets irritating when people ask her about what she feels towards the fact that Maja and Gerald are now dating, when she’s not even the last girlfriend Gerald had.
In the interview, Gerald explained the Misibis Bay photos that shows him and Maja together with their friends and family. According to the actor, during a promotional event in Davao that he attended with Maja, he asked her about good vacation spots in the country. Maja told him about Misibis Bay. And when she eventually told him that she’s going there with her cousins for a bridal shower, Gerald also gathered his group to go there as well.
They went there as friends and it was the first time outside of work that he and Maja were together.
“Nagkasama po kami sa Misibis Bay and we went there as friends talaga,” Gerald told Boy Abunda. “That's the first time na nagkasama kami ni Maja."
At Misibis Bay, though, he started seeing Maja in a different light. “Nakita ko sa kanya na wow parang masaya s’yang kasama, parang ang charming, mabait, nag-eenjoy ako kasama s’ya.”
After that, he didn’t see anything wrong about asking her out since they’re both singles, but before the two of them even had the chance to go out together in a date, things got blown out of proportion.
He also revealed that he and Maja weren’t even texting before their Misibis Bay vacation. And when Boy asked him if it was because he was aware that she is the bestfriend of Kim, Gerald said it wasn’t the case.
“Hindi lang po talaga, hindi kami nagkaroon ng chance,” he answered.
What he was aware of, however, was the fact that their situation is a little sensitive. And he said that if ever Maja really asked Kim’s permission to date him, he knew that it was out of respect for the friendship of the two.
With regards to Kim’s statement that says Maja knows who Gerald is, he said she’s entitled to her own opinion.
“Lahat naman tayo may opinyon e,” he said. “It's our right, kaparatan natin ‘yan. Hindi naman po ako nagpainterview ngayon para i-explain ang pagkatao ko. I know who I am... it's her opinion wala po tayong magagawa d’yan.”
And was he aware that Kim and Maja unfollowed each other on Instagram?
“Magiging maayos din 'to,” was his answer, but also added that it will depend on their maturity level. “We have to face this like adults. We have to face the consequences like adults.”
And since people are making Kim and Gerald still part of each other’s lives despite breaking up for such a long time already, Boy couldn’t help but ask if their relationship had the right closure.
“Oo naman,” Gerald said. “And I’ll always be happy for her.”
