It’s the second live performance night of The X Factor Philippines hosted by KC Concepcion. The theme tonight was “Life/Buhay” so the final 11 contestants were given songs with the words “life” or “buhay” in the title.
First up was Joan Da who was part of the bottom 2 last Sunday. Joan sang Itchyworms’ Gusto Ko Lamang Sa Buhay to prove that she can sing something upbeat. She even performed with backup dancers and sported a new look (read: bangs). To vote for her, text XF JOAN.
Gabriel Maturan, from the Boys category, was next to sing and he performed Michael Jackson’s One Day In Your Life with a guitarist onstage. His voice was a little shaky, perhaps because he was trying to do it softly. All the judges, though, especially his mentor Martin Nievera, liked his performance. To vote for him, text XF GAB.
Take Off, from Gary Valenciano’s Groups category, sang Backstreet Boys’ Larger Than Life. Martin described their performance as “out of this world” and that they were the amplified version of their mentor. Their youthful sound actually separates them from the other male group in the competition, Daddy’s Home. To vote for them, text XF TAKE.
Allen Jane Sta. Maria was the first to perform from the Girls category mentored by Charice. She sang Evanescence’s Bring Me To Life and her youth showed while she ran around the stage. Gary said Allen Jane can look and sound any way she wants to and still sound good. And for Martin, she looked like a star. Text XF ALLEN to support her.
Modesto Taran sang a heartfelt version of Wency Cornejo’s Habang May Buhay and it gave us goosebumps especially when the white-clad choir came out. He received the first standing ovation for the night and according to Charice, they always feel it whenever Modesto performs. If you don’t want Modesto to go home tomorrow night, text XF MOD.
Daddy’s Home, from Gary’s Groups category, was the sixth to perform. They did the upbeat The Best Things In Life Are Free by Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson. The judges liked the fact that they now dance, Martin even saying that he wants to be like them when he grows up. To vote for them, text XF DAD.
Kedebon Colim sang Firehouse’s I Live My Life For You and honestly, he made it sound like a novelty song even though he looked serious while singing it. To vote for him, text XF KED.
Mark Mabasa from the Over 25s category did Got To Get You Into My Life by The Beatles/Earth, Wind & Fire. It was arranged in such a way that it sounded like something off of Broadway and Martin and Gary commended Mark for being able to do any type of songs. Meanwhile, Charice said it was her favorite from all the previous songs Mark did in the show. To vote for him, text XF MARK.
KZ Tandingan of the Girls category did Stevie Wonder’s For Once In My Life and it was more powerful than her last week’s performance. She started the song slow and made it a little upbeat towards the middle up to the end. She even inserted a little rap part which made the arrangement very KZ. Martin’s witty comment: “You’re driving me KZ.” To vote for her, text XF KZ.
Jeric Medina from the Boys picked David Cook’s The Time Of My Life, and while he could hit the high notes, he sounded a little hesitant while doing it and it didn’t come out as good. It didn’t pass unnoticed as Charice said he should be more confident in hitting those notes and that he should just relax whenever there are performances like that. Pilita, however, labeled him as the next Martin Nievera, and Gary said Jeric is already hitting notes he wouldn’t normally hit. To vote for him, text XF JERIC.
A.K.A. JAM from the Groups category was the last to perform and they were given Shirley Bassey’s This Is My Life by their mentor Gary V. Each of them has a very powerful voice and they individually shined in the song. Pilita described their performance as “fantastic” and even said that they “made it tonight.” Their mentor, on the other hand, said it was “extremely moving” and “extremely touching.” To vote for them, text XF JAM.
Send your votes to 2331 for Globe, TM and Sun Cellular or 231 for Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers. To vote online, you can use your ABS-CBN vote cards at www.xfactor.abs-cbn.com. Voting is now open and will end tomorrow night at KC’s announcement during the live show where one of the contestants will be eliminated.
However, no matter how good the performances were tonight, would you agree that Charice’s hair was the most eye-catching in this episode?
