Iron Man 3 made a record-breaking opening day in the Philippines for grossing P62.6 million on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, as announced on Thursday by Victor R. Cabrera, managing director of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Philippines.
The figure was the highest ever for an opening day gross in the country for any local or foreign film. The movie now holds the record previously owned by Spider-Man 3 which opened to a P58 million gross in 2007.
Now also holding the record of the biggest Wednesday gross, Iron Man 3 is expected to earn more towards the weekend when most Pinoy families troop to the cinemas.
Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, together with Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Bettany and Ben Kingsley.
The movie is action-packed as Iron Man is pitted against an enemy who destroyed his personal world. He then embarks on a quest to find those responsible, and as he fights his way back, he discovers the answer to the question that has been haunting him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
