Kris Aquino not resigning but will take a leave, says ABS-CBN press statement

Kris Aquino will take a leave instead of resigning from showbiz, says the latest press statement of ABS-CBN released through Bong Osorio, head of the network’s Integrated Corporate Communication.

The Queen of All Media will take a break in order to spend time with Bimby during his school break in June, and also to be able to bring Josh abroad “to advance his developmental progress.”

The statement further says that the actress and host will be back after the leave to “fulfill her contractual commitments to ABS-CBN.”

Below is the press statement released on Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

ABS CBN and Kris Aquino have met several times to discuss her intent to resign.

ABS CBN fully understands Kris’ desire to be the best mother to Bimby and Josh. On the other hand, ABS-CBN values Kris as an iconic talent and a respected national media personality. Both parties recognize her responsibilities to the public, her co-workers and to the advertisers.

After thorough discussions, Kris has agreed to take a leave instead. This will allow her to spend quality time with Bimby in June when he is on school break and to bring  Josh abroad to advance his developmental progress.  After her leave, Kris will honor her responsibilities and will fulfill her contractual commitments to ABS-CBN without impairing her role as a mother.

The controversial resignation of Kris happened on live television, during an interview with TV Patrol on March 21, 2013. It was done during the height of the controversy that started when she filed a Temporary Protection Order (TPO) against her former husband, professional basketball player James Yap, for allegedly making sexual advances to her last December in front of their son Bimby, months after their marriage was annulled. James denied the accusations and got the sympathy of netizens with his version of the story. He even mentioned that Kris used the name of her brother, Philippine President Noynoy Aquino, to sort of threaten him. It was denied by a crying Kris during the live interview where she was joined by her sisters. It was followed by the announcement of her decision to give up her television shows.

ABS-CBN released their first response to the resignation even before Kris left for her Holy Week vacation in Europe with her sons two days after she announced her quitting. The network’s official statement said that Kris cannot leave her shows especially the reality talent show franchise Pilipinas Got Talent because of the rules they have to follow.

True enough, Kris was seen doing her job as one of the judges in the first live episode of the reality show immediately after she arrived back to the country.
