Nonito Donaire loses against Guillermo Rigondeaux

Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire lost the boxing match against the Cuban boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux on April 13, 2013 (April 14 in Manila) at the Radio City Music Hall in New York.

The fight was for the WBO and WBA Super Bantamweight titles, which Donaire used to own.

It was a great fight, with both boxers doing their best. Rigondeaux, however, caught Donaire in a MMA-style headlock during the fifth round which got some boos from the audience.

In sixth round, Rigondeaux pulled on the Pinoy boxer’s head a lot despite the warning he got from the referee. He was also able to land a huge left hand on Donaire’s chin.

In round seven, Rigondeaux just kept on running away from Donaire without punching, which solicited more boos from the audience as it seemed like the he was just relying on the counters.

But the crowd went alive during round ten as a straight left from Donaire sent Rigondeaux face down on the canvass.

After the twelfth and last round, the scores were unanimous in favor of Rigondeaux despite his tenth round knock down.
