Lazaro Arbos was eliminated from the twelfth season of American Idol during the Top 6 results show on April 11, 2013 (Apr 12 in Manila).
He failed to get enough votes to stay in the competition with his rendition of The Carpenters’ Close To You and Robbie Williams’ Angels during the Top 6 performance night.
The 21-year-old contestant could have had the advantage of being the only guy left in the competition, thus getting the votes of young girls and housewives. But his performances had been consistently mediocre compared to the girls, his being the sole male in the Top 6 couldn’t make up for it.
He caught people’s attention since the audition rounds because he stutters when he talks but doesn’t when he sings. He had that speech impediment since he was small so he somehow got the sympathy of everyone.
Meanwhile, the Top 2 were Candice Glover and Kree Harrison, while Angie Miller and Janelle Arthur were in the middle. Amber Holcomb joined Lazaro at the Bottom 2.
Now that the Top 5 are all girls, the series of male winners will, at last, be broken. The last female winner was Jordin Sparks during the sixth season in 2007. Many, especially Pinoys, thought it was Jessica Sanchez last year but she lost to Phillip Phillips, a “White Guy With Guitar” just like all the winners in the past 5 seasons.
