Ryza Cenon plays the role of a drug addict prostitute mom in Tanikala 5: Liwanag Sa Dapithapon, a Holy Week presentation of Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) Asia which airs on GMA-7.
Ryza is a product of Kapuso Network’s talent search program StarStruck and we’ve seen her do kontrabida roles in Machete and more recently, in Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga. For a change, we will now see her as bida in the Tanikala episode, although her character is still dark.
She plays the role of May Montealegre, a shabu addict young mom-turned-prostitute seeking for her life’s meaning.
“I found the role very testing since I don’t know what it feels like to get high and addicted with drugs and cigarettes and to have a drug dependent boyfriend,” she said about her most challenging role to date. “In real life, I’m the opposite. I don’t have any vices. And I’m not ashamed to say that I have a curfew and I’m a home buddy.”
A good girl, no? But where does she get all those emotions needed to act out a role?
“I just think of my dogs,” she quips. “And also, I look back on all the sad moments in my life. But still, it’s never going to replace the emotions I can give had I experienced those hardships and problems as of May’s.”
Written by Gin Sardea and directed by Derrek Adapon, Liwanag Sa Dapithapon also stars indie actor Junjun Quintana. It will air on Maunday Thursday, March 28, at 5:00 PM on GMA-7.
It is the first of three episodes, the other two being Ama Namin starring Mike Tan on Good Friday, and Tinig starring Frencheska Farr on Black Saturday.
