A grenade-like explosive device rocked the wharf of Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan that forced the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) management to cancel all trips to the subterranean river until further investigation.
According to reports, a woman selling beach hats found the explosive device in a plastic bag together with other fruits.
The woman said she personally held it in her hand. Her companion said it looked like a grenade that’s why they immediately left the place and reported it to the police.
Further reports say the explosion was caused by the police detonating the bomb but it has yet to be confirmed.
No one was hurt, said park manager Elizabeth Maclang in a short interview with Philippine News Agency (PNA). She could not give further details pending police investigation, but she said that it seemed like a scare tactic.
“Everything is okay,” Maclang said. “No one was hurt. It looks like this is a scare tactic.”
Meanwhile, chief Senior Supt. Abad Osit of the Puerto Princesa City Police Office has taken charge of the investigation and are still verifying reports.
