Vice Ganda skips voice rest to receive award

Vice Ganda talked about his current health condition during the Yahoo! OMG! Awards on Friday.

Talking to reporters, he revealed that the polyps on his vocal cords have become smaller in size but are still there.

“Noong bumalik kasi ako sa doktor noong isang araw, nakita nila si digital sotroscopy na lumiit na 'yung mga polyps, pero nandoon pa rin,” said the comedian who was declared Comedian of the Year in the poll-based awards.

Last Monday, he posted on Twitter that he was temporarily leaving the ABS-CBN noontime show It’s Showtime where he was a host. It was because his doctors advised him to take a voice rest as his vocal cords are swollen and that polyps were found.

On Tuesday afternoon, he posted photos on his Instagram account that showed him undergoing digital stroboscopy, a method used to visualize vocal fold vibration.

During the awards night, he said that he was allowed by his doctor to speak but not to stress his voice.

“Ito ‘yung araw na in-allow ako ng doktor na magsalita ulit, pero with care dapat. Hindi ko pwede i-stress 'yung boses ko,” he said as quoted by abs-cbnnews.com.

He also added that he needs to continue his voice rest and was advised to take steroids to help cure his throat condition. If he doesn’t get better, he would need to have surgery.

“’Pag hindi siya naayos ng steroids, doon ko kailangan mag-undergo ng surgery,” he revealed.

While on break from It’s Showtime earlier this week, the comedian spent an out-of-town trip with his grandfather and some friends (including Ethel Booba) to bond.

And in case you already miss his voice on television, watch his Sunday night talk show, Gandang Gabi Vice, later tonight with Lea Salonga as guest. It was taped days before he went to the doctor so expect him to be on full blast and carefree.
