Cha-Cha Cañete gets 2 silver medals, Team Philippines wins big at 17th WCOPA

Cha-Cha Cañete of Goin’ Bulilit took home two medals at the recently concluded 17th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) that took place in Hollywood, California from July 12 to July 21.

The 8-year-old wowed the judges and the crowd with her performances in five categories, and was able to take home silver medals for singing The Climb in the Pop category and Climb Every Mountain in the Gospel category.

Aside from Cha-Cha, the Philippines also got the highest recognitions in both senior and junior categories. Beverly Caimen won Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World, and Aldeza Ianna de la Torre was the Junior Grand Champion of the World. The two also won Grand Champion Vocalists of the World in their respective divisions.

Furthermore, the Philippine team’s Gollayan Sisters (who also competed in It’s Showtime) won Grand Champion Vocal Group of the World, and the country’s first-ever representative to the modeling category, Reynaldo Gorospe, Jr., won Grand Champion Male Model of the World.

Chivas Malunda (who was seen in the Blind Auditions of The Voice Of The Philippines but was not able to make any judge turn) also won a gold as the overall winner of the Vocal R&B/Soul/Jazz category for male singers 25 and Over.

The 29-member Team Philippines took home a total of 43 gold, 38 silver, and 26 bronze awards in various categories and with all the country’s wins from its top talents, Team Philippines’ National Director, Gerry Mercado, took home a much-deserved award as 3rd Best National Director.

The Philippine Team for WCOPA is led by WCOPA International Director Annie Mercado, WCOPA-Philippines National Director Gerry Mercado and the official talent scouts Charie Vega and Lito Napolitano from the Philippines, Royce Pellerin from Japan, and Dr. Molina from Saudi Arabia.
