J.K. Rowling hides under pseudonym, revealed as author of crime novel

J.K. Rowling has been outed by The Sunday Times newspaper that she has hidden behind a pseudonym to publish a critically acclaimed novel.

Rowling, who rose to fame for her Harry Potter series of books, immediately admitted that it was indeed her who wrote The Cuckoo’s Calling under the name of Robert Galbraith.

Just like her fictional characters, Galbraith also has a background story. According to the publisher (Little, Brown Book Group), he was a member of the Royal Military Police who is now in the civilian security industry.

But suspicions arose and after investigations by the newspaper, the real person behind the name came out.

As to why she hid under a new name, Rowling said: “It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation, and pure pleasure to get feedback under a different name.”

Perhaps it was because her other non-Harry Potter book (The Casual Vacancy) as J.K. Rowling received mixed reviews. And now we wonder if it has gotten better reviews had she released it under another name.

Meanwhile, The Cuckoo’s Calling is about a private detective named Cormoran Strike who investigates about the death of a legendary supermodel named Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo.

The book was released in April 2013 and has sold 1,500 copies before Rowling’s identity was revealed. It then moved up from 4,709th to the number 3 spot on the Amazon best selling novels list after the revelation on July 14th.
