The hair in Jollibee’s macaroni soup

It was lunch time when I got off the bus in Lipa, Batangas yesterday on my way to Cuenca for my weekly climb. So before proceeding to hop on a jeepney towards my destination, I decided to grab a quick lunch.

Jollibee

Jollibee has always been my favorite fast food, I even always say that Chicken Joy is my comfort food. And ever since the food chain came up with macaroni soup, I always partner my favorite rice meal with it.

Blogging Break: The Rockies of Mt. Maculot

I introduced a friend of mine to mountain climbing last week, June 9, 2012, and there’s no better beginner’s mountain to introduce one to than the Rockies of Mt. Maculot in Cuenca, Batangas.

At the Rockies, one is offered a serene view of the Taal Lake and the volcano itself. We were lucky to have a clear weather that day. There was not much fog to prevent us from admiring the view and the wind was just about right to combat the heat of the sun.

Blogging Break: Pahiyas Festival 2012

My friend and I headed to Lucban, Quezon yesterday at 3:00 AM for the famous Pahiyas Festival. It is an annual celebration of the Lucbanons in honor of their patron saint, San Isidro Labrador.

They celebrate it by decorating their houses with agricultural products and kiping (leaf-shaped, edible decoration made of rice). Not all houses decorate, though. There’s only a designated Pahiyas route that changes every year. I was told decorating houses that grand could cost a fortune that’s why it’s not advisable for a homeowner to do it every year, thus the annual route change.

Blogging Break: Faro de Punta Capones, Isla de Gran Capon

Capones Grande Island (Isla de Gran Capon) in Zambales is frequented by foreign and local tourists normally as a side trip for visiting the nearby Anawangin or Nagsasa Cove. However, I had been to Anawangin two years ago but the group I went with were too tired after two days at the beach that they just dropped the side trip.

Curiosity took me and a friend to Capones Island last Monday, the last day of the long Lenten holiday. It was supposed to be a two-island hop but big waves prevented the small boat we rented to drop us at Camara Island.

Blogging Break: Mt. Talamitam

At least twice a month, I take a break from blogging and the urban life to go somewhere remote so I can commune with nature or experience something new.

For yesterday, I decided to revisit Mt. Talamitam in Nasugbu, Batangas. It was a good thing my favorite kid guides were unoccupied when I arrived.

It was also summer last year when I first climbed that mountain, accompanied by three kids who were so happy with the pancit canton we cooked at the summit.

The youngest of the three weren’t there yesterday, though, and it was drizzling all through the climb that we only stayed at the summit for a few minutes.

Using the less steeper trail on our way down, we passed by a group of thirteen young mountaineers camped just below the summit. I just hope they weren’t hit by the hard rain that seemed to be looming in the sky yesterday.
