Cory Monteith’s death saddened Glee fans all over the world, but not more than how his costars in the hit series are feeling right now.
Naya Rivera, who plays cheerleader Santana Lopez, released a statement about the passing of her colleague and friend.
“The entire Glee family and I are deeply saddened by this tragedy,” Naya told The Hollywood Reporter. “Cory was and always will be a part of my own family and a good friend. He was a special part of this world and will forever be missed. My heart goes out to Cory’s family and Lea and while we are grateful for everyone's well wishes, privacy during this time of grief is greatly appreciated.”
Cory and Naya are two of the original cast of the show, along with Chris Colfer, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Lea Michele who was Cory’s girlfriend until he died.
Lea has yet to speak about her boyfriend’s death. Her rep, however, has previously released a short statement asking everyone to respect the privacy of the actress as she mourns.
Cory was found dead Saturday afternoon in his hotel room in Vancouver, Canada. He was scheduled to check out earlier that day that’s why hotel staff entered his room. It was then when his body was found lifeless. He was 31.
No official statement on the cause of death has been released, but foul play has been ruled out. An autopsy is scheduled July 15th.
