The Low Pressure Area (LPA) east of Luzon has already intensified into a tropical depression as per the July 16, 2013, 5:00 AM weather update of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The Tropical Depression, named “Isang,” is estimated at 300 kilometers (km) east of Infanta, Quezon. It has maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and is forecast to move west northwest at 19 kph.
Public Storm Warning Signal (PSWS) number 1 has been raised over areas of Luzon namely: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Ifugao, Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Mountain Province, Kalinga and Apayao.
Under PSWS #1, those living in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are also advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today.
