Lea Salonga, who is one of the four four coaches in the debut season of The Voice Of The Philippines, has been known for her lead roles in Miss Saigon and Les Miserables. But earlier this year, she chose to sing Empty Chairs At Empty Tables, a piece sung by the male Les Mis character Marius, during her guesting in FOX 5 News to promote her American Songbook performance.
Her rendition was, as usual, full of emotions and her voice impeccable. Perhaps she decided to sing that song after hearing Nick Jonas do it during the musical’s 25th anniversary concert where she did the role of Fantine.
Meanwhile, she would be sharing her talents by giving tips to her Team Lea come coaching time in the Philippine edition of The Voice. And in the teaser released by ABS-CBN a couple of months ago, she said she’ll be an honest mentor.
“What you’ll get from me as a coach is honesty,” she said, then jokingly added, “beside the Tony Award and thirty-five years of experience.”
Lea will be joined in the coaching panel by Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo MaƱalac and Apl.de.ap. The reality singing show is currently holding auditions in different parts of the country in time for the premiere this June.
