Aurora was hit by a magnitude 5.4 earthquake on Thursday morning, April 4, 2013.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake at exactly 10:52 AM. The epicenter was traced 17 kilometers (km) northeast of Baler.
The tremblor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 5 km.
It was felt in the following areas:
- Intensity V - Baler, Aurora
- Intensity IV - Cabiao, Nueva Ecija
- Intensity III - Cauayan City, Isabela; Mandaluyong City; Quezon City; Taguig City; Pasay City; Antipolo City
- Intensity II - Manila; Malolos, Bulacan; Clemente, Tarlac
- Intensity I - Makati City
Damage is not expected but Phivolcs executive director Renato Solidum said aftershocks are more likely to occur especially around Aurora.
