Arjo Atayde will be in the lead cast of a big ABS-CBN teleserye next year. And it wasn’t because of his recent win at the 2012 PMPC Star Awards for TV because the project has been offered to him even before that.
The big project is reportedly a television remake of the 1983 action drama movie Dugong Buhay which starred Ramon Revilla and son Bong Revilla. Details, however, like which role Arjo will be portraying, hasn’t been revealed yet.
The 22-year-old son of Sylvia Sanchez was a revelation in his role as Jepoy in the defunct fantaserye E-Boy but it wasn’t that role that gave him the PMPC award. The one that gave him the jury’s nod for Best New Male TV Personality was his portrayal of the role of an older brother who is willing to sacrifice for his siblings in the “Bangka” episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya last June.
He was actually nominated in two categories for the role. The other one he did not win was Best Single Performance by an Actor. It went to Noni Buencamino for another MMK episode titled “Sapatos.”
In an interview days before the awards night, Arjo said he wasn’t counting on winning, as being nominated alone was already a big honor for him. He also added that he will use the two nominations as an inspiration to do better his job as an actor.
With his win, however, things have surely taken a better turn. For sure, he will stop being considered as just one of them actor wannabes, or someone who’s only being given opportunities in showbiz because he’s the son of a known actress.
It could also mean bigger and better projects for Arjo. But for the meantime, we know the award will give him more inspiration in doing Dugong Buhay.
