The Miss Saigon fever is indeed back in the country as auditions for the musical’s revival in the West End was held last week. Several well-known local singers auditioned for parts but only a few of them lasted till the last day, with the names of Kapuso singers Rachelle Ann Go, Frencheska Farr and Aicelle Santos on top of the list.
As regulars of GMA-7’s Sunday show Party Pilipinas, the three were joined on November 25 by Gian Magdangal, Robert Seña (who was part of the original Miss Saigon cast) and Rita de Guzman (who also auditioned last week but didn’t make it).
They sang pieces from the musical and I must say Rachelle Ann, Frencheska and Aicelle really deserved to be in the revival’s cast with their vocal abilities. Rita, however, was also impressive but perhaps she lacked something that the musical’s Manila audition team were looking for.
But, of course, ABS-CBN’s ASAP 2012 wouldn’t be left behind. Liezel Garcia, Tippy dos Santos and Jed Madela also did a number singing Sun and Moon. Tippy also auditioned and made it as far as the second round last week.
So which production number was better?
