The Supreme Court (SC) has declared invalid the presidential orders that proclaimed four individuals as National Artists.
In a press conference, SC Public Information Office (PIO) Chief Theodore Te said that the Proclamation numbers 1826 to 1829 issued during the time of former president Gloria Arroyo in 2009 are now invalid due to grave abuse of discretion.
The said proclamations named director Carlo J. Caparas, Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) founder Cecilia Guidote Alvarez, architect Francisco MaƱosa, and fashion designer Jose “Pitoy” Moreno as national artists.
I’m sure it’s a sad day for the “ex-national artists.” It’s like giving candy to a child and taking it back while he is enjoying it.
But as the Filipino proverb says, Kung hindi ukol, ‘di bubukol.
