Marian Rivera, from ‘Catarina’ to ‘Carmela’

The name of Marian Rivera’s character in her upcoming teleserye has been changed from Catarina to Carmela, and Marian herself reportedly requested to have it changed.

According to a report by pep.ph, the Kapuso actress didn’t like how Catarina sounds so she thought of another name and came up with Carmela.

And why Carmela?

“Actually, yung Carmela… nag-isip ako ng pangalan. Parang kapag umarte ka, ‘Katarina, mahal kita…’ E, ang Carmela… ‘Carmela, mahal kita’—mas okay,” she was quoted by pep.ph as saying.

She also researched on the name and it means the most beautiful baby girl.

“At saka, na-research ko, ang Carmela, ang ibig sabihin, pinakamagandang babae na sanggol. Spanish o Italian yata… hindi ako sure,” she said.

Good thing she has a “say” when it comes to her projects nowadays.

Personally, I also find the name Catarina a bit off as it sounds like Katerina, the name of Julia Montes’ character in the phenomenal series, Walang Hanggan, on ABS-CBN. If GMA-7 went on with that name, I’m sure it will pave the way for some bashing.

Marian will be paired with Alden Richards in the upcoming series, under the direction of Dominic Zapata, who also directed Marian’s last series, Temptation Of Wife, together with Gina Alajar. It is set to air early 2014.
