It seems like it will take a long time before we see James “Bimby” Yap, Jr. in the movies again after making an acting debut in the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 3rd Best Picture, My Little Bossings.
According to Bimby’s mom, Kris Aquino, there would be no follow-up movie project until the 6-year-old has finished studying.
“Si Bimby kasi nag-aaral,” Kris told reporters after the MMFF awards night. “Ayaw ko naman masisi later, kasi alam niyo naman na hindi kami okay nung tatay, baka masabi na napabayaan ang pagaaral. Eh ‘yun naman ang responsibilidad ng nanay.”
Bimby’s father and Kris’ former husband, basketball player James Yap, was said to be not very supportive about Bimby’s entering showbiz. On Sunday, however, he told his Instagram followers to support his son’s first movie, My Little Bossings.
“After having lunch at diamond hotel, look who's also here in the area...nice coincidence. Pls support my little bossings showing this dec 25,” he posted as caption to a photo of the festival float with the cast of the movie during the Dec. 22 parade.
Kris, also thanked the older James because according to reports, the PBA star is set to sponsor a block screening of the movie.
“Buti naman na supportive na siya of Bimby,” she said. “He’ll be proud of how well his son performed. Siguro naman pag nakita niya, siguro naman matutuwa siya lalo na na makikita mo ‘yung anak mo na performing well at bumait. So thank you, James. God bless. Peace.”
My Little Bossings is so far the most-watched MMFF entry. As reported, it earned P50.4 million during its opening day on Dec. 25. It was followed by Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, Pagpag: Siyam Na Buhay, and Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel.
